3 Reasons Why It's Important to Visit the Dentist Before Christmas

The holidays are soon approaching, and the calendar is filling up rapidly. Hopefully you have already scheduled your end of the year dentist appointment, but if you haven’t here are 3 reasons for why it is important to get this scheduled. Because, while christmas is a wonderful time of the year, for your teeth it is a nightmare.

Dont forget to brush, floss, and minimize the damage!

Around the holiday season there are all of these delicious snacks and food to munch on. While these might taste great, usually this type of food is pretty bad for your teeth. So it is extra important during this time that you brush and floss at least twice a day, and that you drink lots of water to keep your mouth clean. Try using mouthwash as well, those extra steps will help fight all those sweet snacks during this time! Also, as much as possible, try to minimize the snacking and just stick to the meals. The extra bites in between can actually really hurt your teeth! However, if you find yourself unable to resist, get that appointment scheduled so we can do a cleaning for you!

Don’t drink too much, and avoid ice!

Christmas party!! People love hearing those words, especially during what is usually a stressful time of the year as the year is ending and quarter goals and end of the year goals are trying to be met. Usually with these types of parties, alcohol is served, which is both good and bad. Great to celebrate, bad for your teeth. Alcohol is terrible for your teeth because it is full of acid and sugar. Acid eats away at your teeth’s enamel and sugar will rot your teeth. Alcohol also makes you dehydrated, so like we were saying earlier, make sure you are drinking a lot of water during this time! Also, stay away from chewing that ice at the bottom of your glass. Chewing ice can potentially damage your teeth and cause small fractures.

Take care of your teeth!

This last reason is a pretty obvious one. Usually it’s been about 6 months since your last trip to the dentist by the time Christmas rolls around, so it is good to come in for regular maintenance and cleaning. Regular maintenance is one of the best things you can do for your teeth, so think of this as a Christmas gift to them!

Hopefully this tips help you feel better when you see your dentist calling and you will actually come in for an end of the year appointment!
